Differential Diagnosis for Mood Disorders

 


You chose NO, the client does not present with depressed elevated, expansive or irritable mood due to the physiological effects of a substance (drug or toxin) or a medical condition.

Now you must determine the type of present
and past mood episodes...

 

Manic Episode. Elevated, expansive or irritable mood of at least 4 day duration. Marked impairment or hospitalization. Hypomanic Episiode. Elevated, expansive or irritable mood of at least 4 day duration.Symptoms observable by others but less severe than a manic episode.
Major Depressive Episode. At least two weeks of depressed mood  or loss of interest plus associated symptoms and not better accounted for by bereavement. Mixed Episode. Criteria met for manic episode and major depressive episode, nearly everyday for at least on week.
